What is your favorite fictional character or creature?
Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. He’s so beautifully flawed and tragic. It’s what every villain should aspire to be.
What is the one writing tool you couldn’t live without?
My imagination. All other tools can be replicated or replaced.
What are you looking forward to at Comic Con?
It’ll be my first time to Cosplay. I have some great costumes, and I’m excited to see how they turn out.
When did you know you were a writer?
Everyone around me knew I was writer long before I did. My parents, teachers and friends all said I had a gift for words, but I didn’t want to do something just because I was told I should. I fought it for years, but finally decided I wanted it too.
If you could be any character in one of your stories, who would it be and why?
Archangel Arielle. I admire her strength, conviction, and foresight. Plus it would be way cool to have angel powers.
What path did you take to publication?
I published traditionally with a small press.
How long have you been writing?
My entire life, but I got serious ten years ago.
Favorite author who inspired you?
Cassandra Claire, Jude Deveraux, and Stephen King.
Favorite read in the last six months?
The Fault in our Stars by John Green.
Which of your characters would you expect someone to dress up as during Comic Con?
I would love to see the role of Sinclair Devereux taken on.
What books will you be selling at Comic Con?
Copper Descent, the first volume of The Sentient Chronicles, a series that depicts Lucifer’s fall, rise, and ultimately, his return to the angel city.
How do you organize your thoughts into a cohesive storyline?
To be a good storyteller you have to first be an excellent liar. I make up a story and then I go back to cover the holes.
What inspired you to write?
I had a burning desire to share my thoughts with the world. I don’t think it’s a career I chose as much as it chose me.
Would you consider writing a fan as a character in one of your books?
I’ve actually had many people ask to be written in my books. I’m always happy to entertain the idea, but unfortunately I have to warn that most of my characters don’t have happy endings.
When can fans expect your next book?
Iron Resolve will be released either late 2015 or early 2016.
